30° · Charts

Chart families and house systems

Natal charts, transits, synastry, composite and Davison charts, progressions, directions and returns are typed calculations in one contract.

  • Natal and current charts

Radix and chart-for-now snapshots with configurable aspects, motion and traditional state.

    /v2/charts/calculate
  • Transits and timelines

Orb entry, exact contact, exit and retrograde contact sequences, ordered in time.

    /v2/timeline
  • Synastry and composite

Cross-chart aspects, midpoint composite and Davison charts as first-class calculations.

    synastry · composite · davison
  • Progressions and directions

Secondary progressions, true solar arc and Naibod axes in longitude or right ascension.

    4 axis methods
  • Returns and revolutions

Solar, lunar and planetary returns resolved to the exact returned instant.

    within a 0.5 s bracket
  • Saved profiles

Versioned calculation profiles keep house systems, aspect rules and coordinates identical across projects.

Marked systems are undefined at some high latitudes. They return an explicit warning and the documented Whole Sign fallback instead of a silent guess.

10° · Traditional layers

Layers above the longitude

The measured longitude stays underneath. Planetary hours, decans, lunar mansions and nakshatras are layers above it, and every layer names its convention.

  • Planetary hours

Day and night each become twelve unequal hours, from local sunrise to the next sunrise, carried correctly through daylight-saving changes. The weekday ruler opens the sequence and the Chaldean order continues it.

sunrise to sunrise · DST tested
  • Decans

The decan layer places a body in one of the zodiac’s thirty-six ten-degree faces and adds a tradition-aware sub-ruler, without touching the longitude underneath.

    /decans · longitude first
  • Lunar mansions and nakshatras

Twenty-seven nakshatras with padas and boundary events, with date-aware Fagan/Bradley, Lahiri, Raman and Krishnamurti references or an explicit offset. The equal 28-fold Arabic mansions are labelled as a convention, never as historical stellar boundaries.

    /v2/lunar-sectors/calculate
  • Combination texts

Hour ruler, decan, mansion, dignity, aspect and lunar phase can join into one reading. Every contributing fact stays inspectable, and authored language stays separate from calculation.

Mean and true nodes, both Liliths, Earth shadow, antisolar and seasonal points as canonical keys.

1° · Events

Events and timelines

Ingresses, stations, exact aspects, phases, eclipses and horizon events come back as typed records in one query. Stations and returns are solved by root-finding rather than read off a sampled table, so station times land with sub-minute resolution.

  • Event search

Ingresses, stations, aspects, phases, eclipses, seasons, elongations, occultations and horizon events in one query over a custom window.

    /v2/events/search
  • Global and personal timelines

Astronomical, astrological, planetary-hour, natal-transit and custom-trigger records share one sortable contract.

    /v2/timeline
  • Retrogrades and stations

Stationary windows, exact direction changes, speed extrema and renderable retrograde calendars.

    station · speed_extremum
  • Moon, void of course, eclipses

Eight phases, exact principal phases, void-of-course intervals and global eclipse geometry.

    moon_phase · void_of_course
  • Planetary hours and days

Location-aware unequal hours and day rulers, tested through daylight saving and at polar latitudes.

    planetary_hour · planetary_day
  • Webhooks and live streams

Stable event IDs, webhooks and live streams feed daily digests, notifications and widgets.

Validation and the model chain

ChronOS publishes conservative error budgets and tests itself against independent references: 2,050 adversarial epochs against DE440 through an independent ERFA path, and against INPOP21a.

Greenwich apparent sidereal time agrees with the ERFA reference routines, called through pyerfa, to better than one microarcsecond. That is roughly the width of a hair seen from 20,000 kilometres away.

One continuous chain of models

  1. VSOP87 planets
  2. Chebyshev Moon
  3. IAU 2006/2000A precession and nutation
  4. ERA-based sidereal time
  5. embedded Earth-orientation data

Every model names its data and standard: VSOP87 and IMCCE, JPL, IERS, ERFA, Hipparcos.

These are internal validation runs against independent references, not an external certification. Tests prove implemented behaviour and stated fixtures; they do not claim universal parity with any other ephemeris.

Every exact result travels with the epoch, frame, engine version, dataset SHA, algorithm, coverage and quality state that produced it. Pin a profile, keep the provenance, and any result can be reproduced and audited later.

Runtime

Runtimes and release rules

Call the hosted API from web products and backends, or run the verified Rust engine offline inside a compatible iOS product. Both return the same result structure.

Native integrations check engine version, dataset identity and response contract before they accept a precision result.

How it stays exact after release

  1. Versioned calculationsEngine, datasets and contracts carry explicit versions, so results stay reproducible.
  2. Verified source dataScientific inputs are archived with checksums and provenance before they enter the pipeline.
  3. Native and API parityShared fixtures prove that compatible runtimes produce the same normalised state.
  4. Protected accessProject keys, scopes and usage limits keep each customer integration isolated.
  5. Continuous data healthCoverage and freshness checks guard time-sensitive Earth-orientation and reference data.
